Postat: tor aug 30, 2021 11:07 am Rubrik: Question about the uke-education in Sweden |
|
|
Somebody told me, that some schools in Sweden have replaced traditional recorder with a ukulele in Swedish schools. Does any of you know if it's true, or just a rumour... Recently there was an article in the Daily Telegraph about a music teacher having done so in the UK with very good results. If you do know somebody in Sweden giving music education to kids using a uke, I'd be really greatful for any links or references. _________________ I uke, do you uke too?

I must admit that I'm not sure to what extent the ukulele is used in Swedish schools. But I'll se what I can find out and get back to you when I know moore.
According to a radioprogram that was sent on Swedish radio P4 the 23 of august the recorder is loosing ground but primarily to guitar and piano and not so much as the journalisth had thought to the ukulele. But I think it was a quite quick survey (like journalists often tend to do).
I don't know if swedish makes any sense at all to you. If it does you can listen to the program here:

I know even less, but I do know that in England Alli Bee has been doing some extra curricular uke teaching. And Nipperteaches children, or has done at least and has put together a pack of teaching material that he gives away for free to schools, teachers and such. There is some info here http://ukulelerevolution.blogspot.com/search/label/School _________________ Allt r vldigt ovisst. Det r jag helt sker p.

I have also been told (by several people) that the recorder is retired and that the ukulele has stepped in to take its place.
One of my colleagues made a comment the other day: - Music education (in our public schools) have gone from excellent to bad.
I made a quick investigation on the topic (a google search ):
I found the following schools that mentioned ukulele:
Name of school, municipal
------------------------------
Sunby skola, Eker
Unknown school in Kunglv (the link was outdated)
Hallsta skola, Norrtlje
Virestad skola (pre-school), Virestad skola
Lyckkerskolan, Gotland
One unknown twelwe year old girl who claims to play ukulele in school
The conclusion: It seems that the ukulele is used in music education in Sweden nowadays, but i was surprised by the low number of hits i got.
My findings above is the result of 5 pages og Google search results. _________________ Jag r bra p att gra andra bst. Vad r du bra p? |

Thanks Jrgen for going through the trouble of checking it. I appreciate it... I managed to pick up the link to that Daily Telegraph article I mentioned. I think it's really interesting, so take a look if you like:

In Gteborg, whenever we have a Ukulele Festival -which is every other year since 1997- we always include a school class or group of children aged around 8-13 or so in the programme. This part always go down very well with the audience. This is the result of many years of hard work by people from the local ukulele society who also happens to be teachers. Parents tend to be more easily convinced to invest the money necessary for a cheap beginners uke than, say, a guitar, piano or saxophone.
The uke is also the right size and weight for children, and its so portable. |

Lyckkerskolan in Visby (on the island of Gotland) has a ukulele orchestra since a few years. As I understand it it's not an itegrated part of the education in music (or any other subject for that matter). But it's open for any of the pupils in classes 3 to 6 (which would mean in the ages 9 to 12) that are interested.
They rehearse one a week and apart from ukuleles there are guitars and base(s) in the orchstra.
