Dear friends
now is the time to make public what's been planned for a long time:

Helsinki International Ukulele Festival 2009
August 21.-23.

The score of performers is not closed as yet and will be made public later, but I can tell you that a weekend loaded with a uke-of-a-FUN is guaranteed! Atleast one Swedish act is headlining... there might still be room for one more, so get in touch if you're itnerested.

Festival takes place at a historic and beautiful Orion theatre at the heart of Helsinki. Also a number of clubs and cafes next to the theatre will be the scene for the venue (including the legendary Bar Mendocino).

Festival is produced in cooperation with KAVA, the Finnish National Film Archive. This means, that we will also have the first Ukulele-Film-Festival in history and have the weekend loaded with a range of fine new and historic ukulele films, from "Steam Boat Bill Jr.", to "Sons of the Dessert", "Some Like it Hot" as well as a range of new Ukulele films and documentaries about this small stringed wonder.

Pete Howlett will introduce the Helsinki Tenor, big brother to the by now legendary Helsinki Soprano ukulele.

For those who are into building instruments, several extraordinary Luthiers will attend the festival and in a cosy little caf� you can join them to a "Luthier Tea Time", have a cup of tea and deep intimate discussion about the fine art of building stringed instruments...

We will also have a range of workshops, open stage and just plain FUN... Oh yes, and did I forget to mention, that the 23rd of august is the 130th birthday of the Ukulele? Well, this occasion calls for a massive celebration and at the turn of a midnight there'll be colorful uke-gala to celebrate this historic event...

We at the Finnish Ukulele Network are honored to invite our Swedish fellow ukesters to Helsignfors to join the FUN!

Tickets are now for sale and we'd love to see as many Swedisch fellow-ukesters in Helsingfors as possible. Ukulele turns 130 years old only once and you don't want to miss this!
